Alpenglow Log & Timber Homes offers two milled log styles to suit most tastes and budgets. Those two styles are call Swedish cope and "D" log. A typical saddlenotch corner is standard for each profile, but vertical logs can also be specified at chosen corner locations.

Starting with detailed construction blueprints, we then provide all buildingDay1LogStack_small.jpg material components Tail OptionsEM_small.jpg needed to construct our full log walls, including fasteners to meet local engineering requirements, joinery gasketing and spline material.  For complete information on what's included in a home package, see our Custom Home Packages page.

Log Species and Grades

D-log wall constructionOur raw material is typically dead-standing western white wood (pine, spruce and Douglas fir).  These logs generally come out of the mountains in the Northern Rockies through thinning or fire-devastated clean-up operations.  This type of material has been naturally air-dried on the stump from one to 5 years.

Harvesting soon after its lifecycle allows us to take the material out of the uncontrolledD-log wall construction environment after it has had an opportunity to naturally air-dry, yet before it has undergone unbeneficial degrade.  Moisture levels are generally around a very favorable 15-22%.

Our cedar logs come out of the mountains of the northwest (Western Red Cedar) or Northern California (Incense Cedar), also through thinning operations, and are air-dried prior to being milled.

D-log wall constructionWith Alpenglow’s log specifications, wall settling is minimized because of our dryer raw material and with proper construction technique’s, joinery materials we provide, and maintenance air and moisture infiltration can virtually be eliminated.
