Handcrafted Homes

For the dedicated log home purest, looking for a home like those of the pioneers, we offer handcrafted homes in chink-style form.  This is the log home look of America’s pioneers, but with today’s precision and technology.  We use highly skilled woodsmen to pre-build our handcrafted homes at a yard in Montana from which point the logs are disassembled, numbered as to exact location, and trucked to your building site for re-assembly. You can pick the size wall log that is best for your home, within a 2” range.  Most are built using 10”-12” average diameters.  For the most part, we use lodgepole pine logs out of the mountains of the west, due to their excellent structural integrity, minimal taper, aesthetic characteristics and availability. We use only the best dead-standing timbers with the lowest possible moisture content to allow for minimal shrinkage and we incorporate a tight-fitting saddle-notch corner joinery to assure a weather-tight seal.  All this results in log wall settling on your home that is negligible.

Our clients may choose between a variety of log tail styles (at the corners), including plumb, staggered or arched at the top or arched at both top and bottom.

Alpenglow Log & Timber Homes provides expert advice throughout your project, including a technician at your building site for the first two days of the log re-assembly.   This service lessens the need for you to have a seasoned log home builder, although it is advisable to hire a general contractor that has some experience with log homes.

Our rustic, handcrafted log home packages include every type of log component imaginable, including:

  • Wall logs to your specified plate height,
  • Exposed, structural log members for the roof system (to create the most dramatic of effects),
  • Exposed, structural floor joist beams,
  • Custom log stairs (for applicable conditions in two story homes),
  • Log accent posts for applicable point-load locations and beam support,
  • Log handrail and guardrail posts.
  • Gable wall logs are optional,
  • Log window and door bucks, which double as your trim, are optional.
